Keeping the Bed & Breakfast Tradition

The traditional Bed & Breakfast grew from a simple form of hospitality: opening one’s home to travelers and providing a comfortable bed, a morning meal and knowledge of the local area.

Unlike a hotel, a room listed through a BnB platform or a room-only rental, a traditional Bed & Breakfast is hosted by innkeepers who live on the property. Guests reserve a private guest room with a private or dedicated bathroom—not the entire house. They also enjoy welcoming shared common areas, a prepared breakfast and the personal character of the home.

At The Magic Moose Bed & Breakfast, we are intentionally keeping that tradition alive. We live here, personally care for the guest rooms, prepare breakfast in our home and share what we know about Alaska. Guests are not simply renting a bedroom—they are being welcomed into a traditional Alaskan Bed & Breakfast experience.

Alaska-Style Breakfast Around the Table

Breakfast is a shared event offered at two seatings, 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. No two mornings are exactly alike. Our rotating Alaska-style menu may include espresso, cappuccino or tea, Alaska Cool Aid, breads, muffins or bagels made here, yogurt or ricotta, fruit, house-made preserves and syrup, an egg dish, a breakfast protein, and potatoes, grits or oatmeal. You may also find sourdough from our 100-year starter and eggs from our chickens. Breakfast proteins may include bacon cured and smoked here, smoked salmon, or reindeer sausage, with Alaska-grown or gathered ingredients when available.

Peak season and Fur Rondy/Iditarod: Breakfast is included for stays from May 1 through September 30 and during the Fur Rondy/Iditarod event dates. Off season: For eligible stay nights from October 1 through April 30, our lower room-only rate is the default; guests may add breakfast in advance for $25 per guest, per morning. The breakfast add-on does not apply during Fur Rondy/Iditarod. Choose the 7:30 or 8:30 a.m. seating when requested. Please share dietary restrictions before arrival—we try to honor them, but last-minute requests may not always be possible. The main kitchen is not a shared guest kitchen.

Shared Spaces With Character

The Jackalope Pub

Play pool, settle in with a board game, watch television, make popcorn, or enjoy the disco ball. The bar is not stocked, so guests may bring their own beverages.

The Eagle's Nest

Reached by a spiral staircase, The Eagle's Nest is our meditation-style room for stretching, yoga, reading, or quiet reflection. It includes wide windows, a small balcony, a hanging chair, and an electric fireplace.

Hot Tub and Outdoor Spaces

The hot tub sits on the shared main patio among the trees. Guests may also enjoy the backyard fire circle, barbecue, and Alaska sky when conditions cooperate.

Main-Level Gathering Space

Enjoy the shared dining and gathering areas, including the carved fireplace. These spaces are part of the traditional Bed & Breakfast rhythm—private rooms, shared experiences, and innkeepers on site.

Available to Borrow

Travel a little lighter. Guests may ask to borrow hiking poles, bear spray, bug spray, spa towels and robes, and board games during their stay. Availability may vary, so please ask before heading out. Breakfast is prepared as selected with your reservation. For anything you may want at other times of the day, each guest room has a mini refrigerator for your own snacks, drinks or food.

A Few Things to Know

• All guests must be 18 or older; the primary guest must be at least 21.
• Guest pets are not permitted; resident animals live at the property.
• The Eagle's Nest is reached by a spiral staircase.
• The Kodiak Room is upstairs, attached to the main house, and has its own exterior entrance.
• From approximately October through May, four-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, or studded winter tires are required. When the driveway is snowy or icy, vehicles without one of these cannot get up the driveway.
